Heading to a Wedding

Sometimes a very technically incorrect photo can be just about an emotionally perfect reminder…
Today I begin my journey to a son’s wedding so my timeline will probably reflect another bittersweet jog down my memory’s lanes. Why bittersweet on such a joyous event? Special events certainly define celebratory beginnings, but also sad farewells. It all changes. It has to…and in doing so we should realize how we can’t hold on to anything for more than a moment, even our imperfect memories.
This always points me to the finitude of my story and all those I love. Joy and sorrow are inseparable in all our stories. There is a special purpose to it all—and (to paraphrase Tim Keller) that bittersweetness should drive us like a nail deep into the love of God and into more stability and spiritual power than we can ever imagine…
